Giorgio Napolitano

Giorgio Napolitano (* June 29 1925 in Naples ) is an Italian politician ( PD ). Since the 15th May 2006 he is the eleventh President of the Italian Republic . With Napolitano for the first time in the history of clothed Republic of Italy , a former exponent of the Italian Communist Party, the office of head of state .

Napolitano was born on 20 April 2013 on the sixth ballot re-elected as the first Italian President for a second term.


Napolitano founded in 1942 a Communist group in the Resistenza various actions against the ruling fascists undertook. In 1947 he completed a law degree at the University of Naples Federico II from.

In 1945 he joined the Italian Communist Party in 1953 and became a deputy in the Italian Chamber of Deputies . Political opponents accused him then – how many other communists in the 50s – before he trivializing the crimes of Stalinism . Napolitano later rose to the National Committee of his party, and was one of the most influential personalities of the Communists. He has always been considered one of the leading representatives of the moderate- reformist wing of the party.
